VERITAS Volume Manager (VVM or VxVM) Training

VERITAS Volume Manager, VVM or VxVM software (now part of Symantec) is an advanced, system-level disk and storage array solution that alleviates downtime during system maintenance by enabling easy, online disk administration and configuration. . A VxVM volume appears to applications and the operating system as a physical disk partition device on which file systems, databases and other managed data objects can be configured. VxVM provides the tools to improve performance and ensure data availability and integrity.

After completing this course, students will be able to:
  • Integrate, operate, and make the most of VERITAS Storage Foundation in a UNIX environment
  • Operate management procedures for VERITAS Volume Manager (VxVM)
  • Install and configure VERITAS Volume Manager (VxVM)
  • Configure and manage disks, disk groups, and volumes
  • Configure VERITAS FlashSnap software to implement various point-in-time copy solutions for backup, and database replication.
  • Perform cross-platform data sharing
  • Perform basic VxVM recovery operations
  • Use the VERITAS graphical user interface and from the command line
  • Manage the dynamic multipathing feature
  • Interpret plex, volume, and kernel states, and fix plex and volume failures
  • Place the root disk under VxVM control configured to protect against disk and hardware failure, and to increase I/O throughput
